Ignition Switch Cylinder Removal
I have done this myself many times and would just like to pass it on to those who need to perform this task.
There is a plug just below the Lock Cylinder roughly 3/16 of an inch in diameter. This is a knurled plug with a tight fight, and has to be inserted with a punch and hammer.
On with the removal process. Take a center punch and hammer and tap dead center of the plug, then take a 1/8th drill and drill into the plug just till you feel it hit another surface, you will know when this is.
Now take a Metal Screw a Trim Screw will do, then screw it up into the plug take a pair of Vise Grips and clamp onto the Screw at the bottom of the head then with a hammer hit the Vise Grips and the plug will come out, now remove the Cylinder and now you have the Key Code on the side of the Cylinder. A good locksmith will be able to cut you a new key.
To replace just do the opposite of removal, making sure that the dimple is at the bottom of where the plug goes back in. You can also buy a new plug from Mac's, or any other Ford replacement dealers.
Hope this helps, its a simple proceedure and will make use of that old by-passed ignition switch once again.
