Smog Equipment

Not sure if this is the correct forum but here is my question. Barring possible legal considerations, it is a farm truck that almost never sees public roads, what affect on performance would pulling the smog equipment have on my truck. It is a 91 f-250 with a 460. The reason I ask is one of the tubes already rusted off and the other one is ready to rust off my cat-con. I traced were they go and found almost all the rubber or metal hoses are either brittle and cracked or rusted on the smog equipment. Other than the exhaust noise I have noticed no noticeable problems with performance and do not have a check engine light on. To replace all this equipment would cost more than the truck is worth, I want to remove it but don't know how much on this year/combo is tied into the computer. Could I pull the stuff and cap the vacuum fittings and be okay, or would it never run correctly. Thank for any help you can offer.

ok here it is... Your 460 I take it is Fuel inject correct? Ok well the computer relies on computer input, if you rip all kinds of ##### out your going to experience a check engine light that will stay on no matter what, What is that you want to do with this 460 that you got to take the exhaust smog stuff????????????????????????

You can take the cat and secondary air pump and plumbing off. Leave the vacuum solonoids and wiring in place, just block off the vacuum lines. Other than the fact that it is illegal and won't pass emissions, it won't generate any codes and won't affect how it runs. You must leave the EGR on and functioning though. The mixture and spark are calibrated assuming it is in place. Removal will probably generate a code and will definately affect how it runs. You should leave the cannister purge system intact too, for the same reasons. Make sure you leave the O2 sensor in place, it is a critical component.
