I posted about 2 weeks ago asking if anyone knew how to isolate a bad injecter. Well I got an answer to feel the exhaust manifold. There is absolutly no heat on the right bank(passenger side) of the engine. After removing the valve cover and seeing nothing wrong, what would I look for? Is there a way to check to see if the PCM went out? Truck is '96 F-250 PSD bought new with 173K miles now. SuperChips,K+N filter,3" down pipe and stock after that. Truck was running strong and went to missing at 2000rpm, and had to crawl home. I run 45 cetane Southern States Bio almost exclusive. Any suggestions?
Check the pins & connectors on the valve cover gasket. Look for burnt or bent pins/sockets.
I doubt its the PCM but It could be the IDM, Injector Driver Module. It's bolted to the driverside fender. Remove it and shake it....Listen for liquid sloshing.
Check the wiring going over the valve cover, it's loosely wrapped with red tape. Un-wrap the harness and look for wire chaffing.
Remove the superchips just to eliminate the possibility it's causing problems.
This is not your current problem but you should get rid of the K&N filter. It can cause turbo damage.
Jim,
forgot to mention I did reprogram back to stock before working on it. OK we need to go slow here so... if it sloshes it's bad right? My first look at the harness and connectors look good but will recheck. If the IDM is bad is it expensive? I really love this truck even if it's a Ford. It's so much easier to work on the '83 6.9 non turbo,'87 6.9 w/banks turbo and the '89 +'90 IDI's non turbos we have but this "96 is sweet. Iwill try the suggestions and check back in. Thanks
Yep...sloshes means there may be water in it. There have been more than a couple report water in IDM that took out 4 cyliders...or went totally dead. It's mounted in a spot where water will get in if the seal is bad.
