Just wandering about a "Transmission Filter System" by DieselSite. After reading about this product and the benifits, my truck could get I am tempted to order one. But before I do, my wife says I should be asking all my FTE buddies out there if this is of good value. She says that I spend enough time reading and writing on here that I may just get some good advice. She also said the $200.00 plus could be better spend on her shopping trip. I just think she is hoping that I get some negative feed back on the filter system so she can be on her way.
From what I have heard a good way to go is an 08+ pan with the filter in it.
The 08+ tranys have a real filter in the pan not just a screen like the 03-07 trucks.
Plus the newer pans are larger to hold more fluid so it should stay cooler.
I plan on doing this at the next fluid change.
im only at about 50k on the odo. right now but when im close to 60k I know I will be upgrading the pan/filter, considering the current stock setup only really filters 10% of the fluid.
New to this site. Have spent weeks reading EVERYTHING. I was changing my oil today and noticed a filter coming out of the transmission right before the cooler (part of the tow package?) Is this the "factory" filter? If so, when should it be changed. Just bought the truck (06 F250 6.0L) 8K miles ago, currently has 130K.

If you are talking about the small canister at the front of the pass. side with a big hex fitting on the bottom, then yes it's the factory tranny filter housing..Here's a pic..
Inside is the "toilet paper roll" filter that guys will refer to.. Here's another pic..
This filter should be changed every 30K miles, along with draining the tranny pan and refilling with about 9 qts of Mercon SP.... Use only Mercon SP!!
Here's a tip.. The canister housings are notoriously hard to unscrew.. If you use a ratchet or box end wrench, you will probably bend up the flimsy bracket that the housing is mounted to.. An impact gun is the best tool to break it loose without causing any damage.. Also, you might as well drop the pan to inspect after you've pulled the drain plug.. You should see some dark material around the magnet in the pan.. That's TQ convertor material, and is normal..You want to keep an eye out for small, non-magnetic chunks.. That can be a sign of excessive wear or internal damage.. The pan gasket is re-usable.. TQ the bolts to 11 ft/lbs in a criss cross pattern starting in the center/sides, and work your way to the front and back..
Got it, thanks. Don't really know the service history behind the truck, bought it from an independent dealer. Filter probably hasn't been changed in quite a while if it is anything like the fuel and oil filters I changed out today. Yuck!
considering the current stock setup only really filters 10% of the fluid.
But after the fluid reaches operating temp, and you are driving around, wouldn't 10% mean that after about an hour or so, 99.9% of the fluid has gone through the filter?

I have to agree with loubell! Same goes for the coolant filter addition. Eventuall everything goes thru the filter. The advantage of a bypass filter is if it should plug up you still have full flow.
