Help!

do you need to pack the rear wheel bearing with grease on a 2001 F350 dually? there wasnt any grease in there when we tore it down, but the haynes manual says to. we didnt know why you would need to because the rear end lube gets to them. this is urgent, we need to know by tomorrow morning. thank you very much. matt

I thought the diff oil lubed them but it won't hurt to pack it too if you don't get an answer.

The grease is to insure that the bearings have at least SOME lubrication until you get the gear grease (oil) to them by driving up on a berm.

You have to somehow move the truck to get it to the berm, doncha'?

I sure wouldn't pack them well, as you want that stuff to eventually wash out.

Ford Service manual says to pack rear wheel bearings when seal or bearings are replaced. It also specs to replace the seal any time the hubs are removed.
Here is the quote direct from the manual:
"Pack with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B."
