Ok so in my last thread I posted that my fuel gauge wasn't working and apparently I had an open circuit from the sending unit (reading full all the time). I came to the conclusion that there was some sort of corrosion on the sending unit of the fuel pickup. I found a complete used fuel pickup and replaced my old one. The fuel tank had quite a bit of fuel in it probably close to a half tank. Put everything together and the damn gauge reads in between 3/4 and a full tank??? Just was wondering what everyone's insight would be???? Do I need to reset anything or check any fuses???
I have read about many who have or had issues with the fuel gauge. In fact, my 2002 will not show an accurate reading between full and 3/4, the gauge bounces between the two marks alot? While under warranty, I took it to the dealer but they were unable to recreate the problem. Funny, when I picked up the truck, it did it again on the way home. I bet now if I take the truck back the dealer, they will not have an issue finding the cause since I will be footing the bill. I really do like my truck, best truck I owned.
if you need to be really **** about accuracy, like me, you can pull out the sender assy and bend the float arm down for more fuel indicated or up for less indicated.
and if you need to be EXTREMELY accurate, you will need to drain the tank and put back specific amounts, like 5 gals at a time and note the readings. Be aware the sender resistance is linear and the tank has bumps and protusions that make measurement whacky.
the ultimarte soultion is to get a different style sending device like the ones used on aircaraft, with the addition of fuel management hardware.
