Intake plenum?

Is it necessary to clean the intake plenum on my 4.9L straight six?

Intake plenum?

If there's actually stuff in there, then you've got problems. I've pulled them off after 200,000 miles to find them spotlessley clean. Reason is, gas tumbles through it the whole time, so whatever would try to stick to it would get flushed out instantly. TK

Intake plenum?

NOT neccessarily true. You have VERY hot exhaust gas (EGR valve) mixed with "dirty" oily vapors via the PCV valve both introduced into the intake manifold. The only source of "fuel" is the limited vapors drawn from the fuel tanks' vapor purge lines. This is miniscule compared to the oily residue coming from the top of the crankcase! The intake manifold of my 4.9L inline-6 is VERY oily, but this does not impose measureable restriction on the intake. I am a neat freak, so I thoroughly spray carb cleaner into the intake every now and then. Probably doesn't help the manifold, but maybe cleans the combustion chamber some!?!

TK
No gasoline in an EFI plenum - it only enters the airstream AT the intake valves.
