Need help fast

Rear end saga continues. Salvage yard has just shipped 2 axle. Have already researched here and was looking for 600 series no. stamped on long side of tube.. What they sent me now is stamped on pumpkin RJHG 2782 with a cluster of 7's below it. It just looks sooooooo heavy duty.
Rebuilt flattie is purring, new bed floor ordered. End in sight.Been dragging this truck around 40 yrs. Any info appreciated.

From earlier posts, talking to other 53 250 that 67-69 3/4 bolted on. Looking obviouslly for better ratio. Now its 4.88 . One poster gave model nos. of 602910
11
12
or 603045
47

first they sent me 3/4 78-79 this was 3.5 in. too wide

What came today has model stamped on pumpkin rjhg 2782 with cluster of 7's underneath. Its width is 1 3/4 wider. Mech thinks this could work. This thing just looks sooo heavy duty, suspicious of 4x4. And the ratio.

I have called apprx. 25 salvage yards within 200 miles. These clowns in Pa. told me originally they had 69 rear. Will try to download pics. thanks

Now we're cookin! Most 3/4 ton pickups from '56 - on had a Dana 60 axle. Compared to a Ford 9" or a Dana 44, it is quite a bit larger. Hopefully, that's what you've got. The numbers you provided are probably just casting numbers and won't help much. A couple things to look for - '67-'72 axles like you are looking for should be 63" or real close from wheel mount surface to wheel mount surface. It is very possible that they could be 1 3/4 to 2" wider than the original Timken axle. As long as the spring perch width is the same, the extra overall width will be inconsequential. Is there an axle tag? It will usually be bolted under the two far right hand vertical rear cover bolts on a 60. That will give you the ratio. Also look at the point where the right hand axle tube meets the center casting. Viewed from the rear, you will see that there is a web in the casting above the tube. A Dana 60 will have a 60 cast into the web there. The last thing to look for if it is a D60 is a BOM number. It can be decoded to tell you exactly what it came out of and usually the original gear ratio. Grab a piece of sandpaper and start sanding on the back side of the right hand axle tube. You should find a 6 digit number hidded in the rust stamped in there that starts with a 6. Start at the center casting and work your way out. It's usually around 6 inches from the center casting. Post it and we can confirm it's origin.

Check out the following webpage. It illustrates what I'm trying to describe.

ok, see if this helps. nothing on back of tube. on driveshaft side of axle, earlier numbers i found are at 12:00, also found at 1:00 - 2 - A's stamped, at 2:00 4- 3's, at 3:00- 3934635, below that, 131, then D, with a 2 below that.
also at this point is large set screw apprx. 1/2 in. diameter.
Another point is back cover plate is smooth with no indentations, looks like half bowling ball.
Diameter of tube is 3 1/4
Dimensions of spring block is correct at 40 3/8. face plate is 64 1/2 . these numbers seem to check out or workable. Have no idea of ratio. Still have to identify to get brake parts. thanks a ton. getting so close, getting obsessed.

Hmmm. All those numbers sound very much like casting information and aren't likely to do us any good. I think we're really at the point where pictures are going to be necessary.
