Glove box lock

My truck came with a lock for the glove box. I don't have a key, luckily its not locked. But I would like to replace it with a new one so I can use it. I've checked Mid Fifties and C&G, seems this was not a stock option. The **** looks very similar to the other stock ***** but it has a lock cylinder going through the middle with a metal tab on the inner side to twist against the dash locking it in place. It's very simple but effective. If any body has any info on this type of lock please let me know. Thanks!!!

Delux models included a locking glove box. Your truck is a delux. You should be able to get a key made for that at a locksmith. Try to soak that lock with some kind of penetrating oil, because one of your keys should work.

Cool that's good to know. But mine ijnition switch/cylinder has been replaced with a later years model but you never know I'll give it a good soak tonight and see what happens. I'm curious, if it came stock on delux models how come no one sells replacements?

It is just one of those items that they don't reproduce, like the stainless trim on your trucks drip edge, that is not reproduced either. You see these items come up on the bay and they usually get some pretty good action.

Actually, take the thing out and take it to the same locksmith and they can re-pin the lock so your ignition or door keys work with it. They can also re pin the door locks to match the ignition if they don't - one key for all the locks. Or if you want two keys, they can re-pin the glove box to the door lock keys - any combination. About $15-$20 a lock.

Look Familiar?

Thanks Julie, can you recommend a place.

Mine does not have the 2 bolt mounting plate. It has a big nut that fits around the cylinder, kind of like how the ignition is held in place. I'll get a picture this weekend.

By the way, no luck with soaking it. I'll have to make a trip to the locksmith.

Yes, I know an excellent lock shop with a lady whos is very familiar withthese locks. She has the pin kits on site and charges $20 a lock.

I had her do my door locks (2 plus the extra set of 2) and the glove box locks (both of them) and she did one for free. Take any blank keys you may have to get a couple extras made as well. No extra keys, you can get them on e-bay for $2.

The locksmith is

That's good, Sneet. And nice to find a local locksmith.

And welcome to FTE the best Ford truck forum on the World wide Web! Show us pictures of your truck and your story behind it .

But this is an old thread dating back to 2009.
And beware of Jules. He was banned from FTE.

Start a new post with your own title on it. That truck looks like it has had a bunch of work done. Including reworking the front fenders. Guessing the steering system got moved as well.
