I have heard that the early model 6.9 diesels had less power than the last year 86,87 6.9's if this is true what does it take to make the older one stronger or just to make either stronger. Also with the turbo is there anything to do to the engine to help with a higher boost.
The 83 model is the odd ball, 84 thru 87 the HP was the same.
83, 84, and early 85 had some block problems with thinner casting over the block heater, only an issue if you use the block heater.
83 thru 86 engines had ther old style rockers, not good.
7.3 rockers are a bolt in replacement and much stronger.
With a turbo, 7.3 turbo valves are also a good idea, again drop in parts.
Head studs will get you to 20 PSI boost without problems, but more and you have several other issues to address.
