Got a good line on a 93 cummins 5.9, 130000 mile on it how does that sound in a 1974 F250 4x4 however unfortunatly a dodge trany to go on the back of it. think this could solve my fuel milage problem though!! any one put a cummins in and have any ideas suggestion (don't rip me to hard i am not wild about the d-word tranmission talk about building in a weak link!!)
lots of people doing this. If you head down to the motor swap section you'll find a few. Until then here is a link to my swap. Should be similar enough for you - since it's a 74 F-250 4wd as well
Actually the newer dodge tranys are the best out there(If built) Guys are replacing their allisons, torqueshift, and the old 727 in favore of the new trans
I have heard people who are pleased and people who are not.
I looked at their stuff a while ago (I think they have more parts like trans adapters available now) and I wasn't super impressed with what you got for the $$. I was looking at motor mounts and wasn't super impressed with what you got for the $$.
Then again I am kind of a fab snob and even the de-stroked stuff costs a lot for what you get... 3 pieces of steel MIG welded together (motor mounts) for over $200 or so - NO thanks!

If its a manual trany, there isn't much dodge about it except the guy who bolted it in worked for dodge. I don't know about the automatic.
If you do the swap buy the whole donor, you will need a lot of parts from it.
Fuel mileage will be about the same as the Dodge. I get an honest 21 MPG on the highway. Best ever was 23.9 empty with a tail wind. Worst ever was 16 with a head wind, loaded Uhaul trailer and the bed full.

Is this with the 12v 5.9? Mine does not seem to get that good of mileage. I haven't really tested it yet, but I figure it at around 15mpg unloaded.
Wow, thank you all for the info, if i get it i am getting the whole truck and it is an auto, it is a non intercooled one and i will be changing that!!, I have a feeling this swap may take some time however!! I can live with a AVG MPG of around 20 it sure beats 8! Expecialy when all you have is a 19 gallon cab tank
