Recommendation: based on my past experience (1970's) with Hedman products, I would highly suggest re-welding the head pipes at the head connecting flange. Perhaps they have changed their assembly techniques, but they use to be known for leaks at these locations. I use to run a bead weld on the side away from the head (the side you can see after install) around 100% of the pipe, then check the flange mating surface for straightness. this was the only way i could keep em sealed.

With regards to the pipe... You can run 3" all the way or step down from the collector to 2" or 2 1/2" (sizing specifically for your selected muffler- I would go with the largest diameter that I can to match the collector), using tailpipes in any combo of 2", 2 1/2" (duel) or single/duel 3", etc and you will be fine.

Run 3 inch all the way. Thos 2 or 2 1/2 belong on a ranger or a tempo... I hate seeing thos little pipes on a V8... They rob so much power.
