Yes you can. But since modern conventional motor oils have improved so much in the past 25 years, any performance difference between them and synthetic oils is so minimal that it's not worth the premium price you pay for synthetic. Unless you drive your vehicle in Antartica or it has a jet engine, synthetic oil is not going to give you any better performance than premium fuel gives in an engine that runs fine on regular grade.

Since you specified a 10w40 oil, in addition to that, the owners guide for our year trucks also specified 10w, 5w20, 20w20, 10w30, 30 and 20w50. Depending on what the temperatures are in your area.

i found that the synthetic actually leaks faster out of my little main seal leak.
so I no longer use anything other than non synthetic.

I've considered trying synthetic oil before, but I've been warned (by someone knowledgeable on the topic) that if you switch over, then go back to non-synthetic, it may use more oil.

Personally, I use Shell Rotella T 15w40, non-synthetic oil. I have no complaints whatsoever, it's a great product.
