C6 tailshaft

Is there more than one C6 tailshaft housing / tailshaft length for the F 100 - 350 trucks? Is it hard to change the different types? Maybe one with yoke and one without?

Truck-type housing is short and has a bolt-on yoke. Car type housing is longer and accepts a slip-type driveshaft.

Bobby, Don't the later truck tails have slip on yokes as well? I'm thinking the truck donor that is on my floor back at the farm has a yoke.

My '72 has a bolt on yoke. You mean later than '72?

Bobby, My thoughts from reading posts that you had some knowledge on the C6. 10 years or more back I parted out several trucks so I don't know year specific but yes, likely later than 72.

If you don't know it's ok.

It was very rare past 73 that any truck had a bolt on yoke. They all went to standard slip on yoke and used the car tailshaft and that last up until 1997 when the last C-6 was used(from 89-97 the c-6 was a special order only option not many used mostly U-haul and UPS stripped chassis).

Yes, I was referring to a 67-72 (69). thanks for the responses, sorry I've been gone.
I have a Doug Nash overdrive unit that I want to put in my 69 F100, but the tailshaft is short with a yoke. The unit came off an 89 F350, C6 with the splined shaft sticking out of the trans, long tailshshaft adapter.
Anyone ever traded output shafts from on to the other? The DNE2 overdrive comes with the tailshaft housing to adapt the overdrive to the longer housing trans. Was hoping it might be possible to just change output shafts, bolt it on and go. My truck has 3.70 rear gears with 235-75-16 tires, 390 4V, pulls nice but I would like to lower the rpms on the hiway.
Thanks in advance, Jeff

Jeff, I am not a tranny guy, but my understanding is that tail shafts can be exchanged between C6s. The guts can be swapped between different cases.

I am sure someone more knowledgeable can confirm or bust my comment.

Yes, you can swap the short shaft for the long one or vice versa.

It can't be done.

Just box up the overdrive unit and send it to me... LOL

You realize that everything must come out of the trans to get the shafts out...

And...during this process, it's a good idea to replace the forward, direct and reverse clutch packs, and all the seals and gaskets.
