Fuel check valve?

I spent about an hour searching old posts tonight and could not find the answer to my question. This morning my truck would not start. I eventually got it started, but noticed after I shut it off that the fuel filter was draining. Bubbles were coming up from the fuel line on the fuel tank side. This tells me that the fuel is draining back into the tank and the carb is running out of fuel when the fuel pump is not running. Later today, I drove the truck and after 8 hours of sitting in the garage, the fuel filter is still full and the truck fired right up. Seams to me there is a faulty check valve in the fuel system that is intermittently working. So...where is the check valve?

Do you have a vented fuel cap? you could have pin holes somewhere in your rubber fuel line too, or a tear in the diaphragm on the fuel pump.

What do you mean you saw bubbles come up from the fuel line? You saw bubbles forming on the outside of the line, or what? There isn't a check valve; typically this problem is a result of a faulty fuel pump or an air leak as MH has described.

I saw air bubbles in the clear plastic fuel filter located above the intake manifold. The bubbles were coming from the tank side. It only happens sometimes, which led me to believe there was a check valve sticking.

There are no check valves on our trucks at all.

It sounds like the fuel pump's diaphragm has a hole.
