'96 Fuel guage

When I bought my '96 f150 4x4 new, the fuel guages were very accurate (needle on guage exactly on F line when full and E line when empty, or at least close to empty). It seems that within the last couple years or so, the fuel guage, mainly on the rear tank tends to indicate less fuel in the tank than what there actually is, even when the tank is full, guage will barely hit the F mark. Are the floats plastic in this truck? Are they replaceble without replacing the sending unit? Could the resistance sensing parts on the sending unit wear out? What would and experienced technician look at / test first? I'd like the guages to be accurate again.
Thanks,

I don't know if you can get replacement floats or not- I don't know why not. You'll have to call your local parts store and ask. If not, there's always junk yards.

I don't see why the floats themselves couldn't be replaced, but then, I've never pulled the tanks on any vehicle newer than 93 so I couldn't tell you... at least, not on a Ford.
