In short heres my problem,my fuel guage sometimes pegs to empty and then full or somewhere in between...So I did the instrument cluster test and it says DTS-9201 which is a "fuel sender circuit failure"...Anyone know if this is a short in the sending unit failure or maybe a ground to the sending unit?I guess I need to drop the tank either way but if I knew it was the sending unit for sure I would get the part then drop the tank..I dont want to drop the tank twice...People have also said to put chevron techron plus in a couple of tanks of fuel and maybe that will ungum the sender if thats the problem..I dont know,any ideas???

 

You can not go by the Instrument display self tst they do not mean anything except to ford as they are not the standard DTC's.

 

Well, I fixed it today anyways.... The ambient temp sensor was readingthe temp wrong and I replaced that sensor for 30 bucks and walah the gas guage started working as soon as that was replaced.. Dont know why but that was it. Had my wife sit in the truck as i put new sensor in and gas guage went to correct level immediately... Strange.... But ill take it....
