I have a 96 Ranger that has had the mirror smashed out. I looked up under where it swiveled and there is a cover. I removed it and there is a screw that i quess tightens it. I was wanting to just take it off there instead of removing the door panel and undoing the 3 bolts. Can this come apart at the swivel? It would make it alot easier.
To answer you simply, no, you cannot take it apart there. The fitting there is designed for the swivel and not for removal. If you take it apart there, you will most likely end up with a mirror that will not stay where you set it. When you buy new mirrors, they come as the whole thing. If you get on in a yard, you would also get the whole thing. Its not that hard to remove the door panel, heck, while you are at it you should lube the window track and door linkage with some white lithium grease.
It has a 6 pt allen or a cross tip head and it goes up through the swivel and tightens in a flat square washer with female threads. It's not that i don't want to remove the panel i was hopeing that it would be less time consumeing.
