Cool I give up!!

I was just given an 85 F-150 5.0 V8. My grandfather's neighbor tried to jump it for him and when he did he hooked up the jumper cables backwards......over a year later, I towed it to my house, put a new battery in it and I get nothing. No horn, no lights, nothing. It's as if there isn't a bettery in it at all. Just a big 1/2 ton paperwieght. I can cross the silinoid and get a spark and hear the starter pop but I can't figure out why there is absolutley no power at all! What can I do and where can I start? When it comes to electrical problems I am a complete moron. Someone PLEASE help!

The fuseable links are blown .where your cable from the battery bolts up to the solinoid, there are a few smaller wires there as well . One is the charge wire from the alt the other is the main power wire for the truck . Both of these wires have fuesable links close to the Solinoid.

The ground to the block is good. ( Thank you Diesel Brad). And I can find the two fusible links near the silinoid but how do I tell if they are bad? Or should I just assume they are and go ahead and replace them? I would imagine they aren't very expensive.

Easiest way I've found to test fusible links, just grab the wire and pull. If the link is blown the only thing holding it together will be the insulation so it will stretch and break apart easily. DO NOT replace a fuse link with regular wire, you can purchase a new one of the correct gauge from any auto parts store.

I've done this before. I believe we checked it using and multimeter on ohm setting. It's pretty easy.

IT'S ALIVE!!!! It WAS a fusible link. I had tugged on them before but not very hard. I was afraid of breaking the wire. (That's my luck). After reading the post from rowdyredneck i decided id try it again, this time not caring if it broke or not. I guess sometimes you just gotta be willing to break stuff to fix stuff.

Sweet! I once reversed the cables on an old Honda and smoked all of the fusable links. It made for a pretty good fireworks display.

Same thing as dcassidy in my 76!

I replaced my spark plugs in my 76' F100 yesterday and afterwards went to start it and NOTHING!!! Same problem as dcassidy has like there is no battery in the truck! Arced solenoid and she turns over but wont fire. The damn cab lights wont even come on when you open the door or brake lights when you compress the pedal. Didnt see any fusible links along the right side as mentioned in this thread. Would they be in the same place on my 76? All fuses are good in fuse panel, but its not getting power.

Unless you jump started your truck with reversed cables after you changed your plugs, I would not think that your fusable links would be blown. I would double check your battery connections and also check where your negative cable goes to ground for corrosion.

No i didnt even jump it. I checked all my grounds from battery and connections from the positive side. It drove fine all day...Then I replaced plugs and turned the key and nothing. Ive never had anything like this happen.
