Hi all. I have a 2001 Ranger 4wd. It has been running rough. I read the code and found a code for cyl 5 misfire. I recently replaced the coil pak, the wires, and the plugs. How do I find what is causing this? It is a 3.0. Thanks.
If you still have a misfire after doing what aquanaut20 suggests, see if it's a bad fuel injector. I had a misfire a few years ago and replaced wires, plugs and coilpack and still had the misfire. Ended up being a bad injector. Just something to check if the other replacements don't work.
I have a 2000 that threw the same code. The problem turned out to be the exhaust valves receding into the cylinder head. This is a common problem on the 3.0 motor I was told. I replaced the heads and the problem was solved. I tried all of the simple things first and nothing else worked.
I checked plug and wire visually. I didnt ohm out the injector or use the stethoscope because I can't get to the injector due to the fact that the intake completely covers it. So I will attempt to get to it tomorrow. What is the light you are referring to?
