No need for special headers just don't get equal length shorties.
P.S. The reason I asked about the cost of the porting is because it's way too easy to spend a $1000+ on port work and valves and you can buy brand new heads that perform WAY better for that. If the GT40p's aren't ready to install for well under that it's not cost effective IMO.
i hear that!!! LoL. the gt-40p's on summit are like 600 bucks assymbled i think without rocker studs and stuff. so i ask. would i just take the rocker bolts from my stock heads and use them on those heads or get rocker studs??? i don't know why but the TFS heads come with rocker studs and these dont.
Most aftermarket heads use stud mount rockers but the GT40's and all stock Ford heads use pedistal mount rockers, they are different setups.
But yes you can literally take the rockers assemblys off the stock heads and bolt them on the GT40 heads, same bolt size.
50resto.com sells top end packages including gt40p heads and cobra intakes along with the frpp e-cam. that will easily put you to your 300f/w horsepower mark and the entire package with all you could need is around 1600 dollars.
thats a pretty sweet kit right there. thank you for posting that!!! i can almost afford that right now, but it looks like i may have to wait around 2-4 weeks thanks to somebody stealing my credit card # on the internet.. got that taken care of though and if i can get myself to quit buying diesel parts for a few weeks i will be good!! LoL
ok so i can get the kit next week for sure. so with flat top pistons, FRPP e303, gt40p's, and cobra intake. what else is recommended to use with these parts? i have looked at MAF sensors so much i'm confused on which one i need to get. there are sooo many different sizes and different throttle bodies.. do i need a larger TB? if so what size do y'all think and what TB sensor do y'all think i need? injectors????
You will probably need 24# injectors unless your doing more to the truck then i would go 30# . Your MA meter needs to match your injector size , i use a pro m meter , they have a good tech dept & can help you out alot ... Lew
with that kit, you don't exactly need any bigger then stock 19# injectors, but 24's won't hurt. a stock 58mm T/B will work fine, but a cobra or any 65mm will definitely help. you don't want to go too big with the MAF and T/B. a 65mm T/B and 73 or 75 mm MAF will me mooore then enough for your setup.
Cool deal. i will look for some stuff like that. the injectors should be pretty easy to get and the TB should be easy, but when looking at MAF's dont they have to be calibrated to the size injectors being used???????
ok so i know about the MAF meters now. we are coming along quite nicely. now i'm still very interested, but i just saw on that late model restoration website another kit that uses gt40x heads. they have a little bigger valves and that kit comes with roller rockers, but not headers like the gt40p kit does. i'm still prolly going to use the gt40p kit, but i have to ask. do those gt40x heads made a nice little power difference from the gt40p's? i ask b/c eventually i have a feeling i will end up wanting to do more to this engine than what i'm doin. LoL
hahaha yea, i know the feeling. my mustang just made 314 horsepower to the wheels and after a day or so, the car feels the same as my old stock motor.
yea, they'll make a good amount of power over the P heads, but if you're going to upgrade from the P heads, i would just go aftermarket like a set of trick flow twisted wedge heads, or afr heads.
hey guys. i bought the kit on latemodelresto that has the gt40p heads, e303, shorty headers, smog eliminator, cobra intake, etc.
question is back on the rockers. what rockers should i get?! i wanted the ford racing pedistal mount 1.7 ratio, but they say they won't ship til january next year. if i got rocker studs can these heads be changed to stud mount rockers? it seems they are much more popular and will likely be easier to get.
