White oak is very weather resistant and extremely durable. Can be stained any color.

There are several other species that will work, but are far more expensive per board foot.

Good luck

I'd second the motion on the oak, it's tuff as nails and looks really good.

Might be difficult to find but ELM would outlast the truck.

Not overly attractive (i.e plain) but if it's a working truck and you want durability.....

Oak is durable and hard. But, it turns black when subjected to the least amount of moisture and must be "Filled" prior to finishing. If you aren't concerned with looks, white oak or even red oak will be fine - but both will "spot" black.

Hard pine would work well, or Carolina Gum. Ash would also work well.

With the right clear coat you could use basicly anything. I always thought it would be cool to use an exotic wood, like Purple Heart, but that would be a fortune to say the least.

I drive mine...but it is too large to drive every day,or for most functions.
It does draw attention, though, and that is cool.
I like the red-oak myself....but buy what you like.

I am selling off my 14' grain bed and it is nice ...almost as nice as yours....but I do not need it.
Driving the 53f100 mostly now,and looked at a 53 panel tonight.....but when we pulled into my drive and saw the big 56.....it makes me grin!!!!lol

When I hit the $245 mil Powerball lottery next weekend, I think I will re-bed with Cocobolo.
