I've looked through all of the post and didn't see anything about bigger injectors so here is my question. I have a 1985 Ford F-250 6.9l with a leaking injector and I am toying with the thought of getting bigger injectors all around. This truck sat in a barn for 5 years and I flushed and changed all the fluids (including the fuel tanks) and drove it to California from Missouri with no problems. I would like to know what kind of options do I have for new fuel injectors and where can I get them. I am a newbie to the diesel world so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
where in cali are big injectors are useless in less u have a turbo to much isnt the best thing of these motors
im gonna have to agree with joe, without all the extra air a turbo provides the fuel wont burn efficiently and just raise exhaust temps waste fuel and possibly cook the motor literally.
The IDI doesn't benefit from bigger injectors as much say a powerstroke. There really isn't much of an aftermarket for them either. That said, DPS makes some, but I wouldn't wish them on anyone. They may make more top end power, but they fail at all other throttle settings. Over on Oilburners.com one of the members and a shop came up with MooseMisters. They're still testing them, but so for they are more driveable and make comparable power to the DPS. To get their full benefit you'd need a turbo and a Moose pump (another tweaked item that kicks some serious butt).
Roger on don't buy bigger fuel injectors. Thanks for all the help. I will just buy some stock ones to replace them...any tricks I should know about? I found one that has started to leak today so I guess I will get them tomorrow and put them on. Thanks in advance again for any help.

When you say it's leaking, do you mean you can see it while it's running or you removed it and the tip was wet? If you can see it leaking then you need to replace the orings that seal the "hats" to the injectors, and while you're at it replace the return lines too.
If it was wet when you removed it, make sure to remove the copper sealing washer that's in the bore and lube the o-rings so the hats slide on and don't slice or damage them.
I can see it leaking while it is running. I haven't touched any of them yet. From what you guys are saying, I don't need to replace the injectors...just get the return line kit and replace all of the seals...or go ahead and replace the injectors while I already have them out?
My Lab Ruger,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
Where exactly is the leak?
If you do remove them, a diesel injection service that works on Stanadyne injection systems can pop test them for you.
If the tip of the injector is wet when you pull it out, the pintle is not sealing when it should and is leaking fuel into the cylinder when it should not be.
The leaking injectors should be replaced, and if you have them pop tested, replace the ones that are not in spec for pop pressure or spray pattern.
Given the cost of new versus rebuilt injectors, go with new.
Thanks again for all the help...yes the injectors are painted grey so I have a set of brand new Delphi injectors and a return line kit on the way. The injector was leaking out the base of the injector right before it goes into the head. I really appreciate everyone helping me with this. Like I said I am a newbie when it comes to diesels...
