hey i just installed a 87 460 in to my 69 f100 and the motor is to close to the rad to run the mechanical fan so i need to get a electric fan that can keep my truck cool in the hot summers. heres a little info. i have the stock water pump and i just bought a new three core rad. please help me with my big problem. thx tyger
Well first, a 4 core would have been better than a 3 core. As to electrics, just get the highest CFM one you can find. It will probably be a dual fan set up.
if you check into the Police Crown Vic/Mustang or Continential LSC model, they had very high flow electric fans and cost less than aftermarket units that flow less cfm.
Try that fan that you have now. Those move quite a bit of air. YOu should not have any problem pulling enough air, but you may have some difficulty with having enough rows in the radiator for the proper amount of heat exchange.
There is no magic formula really, you will just have to run it and see.
Keep a good eye and use a quality gauge. Small steps will produce your answer.
Bear, maybe he has oil in the radiator instead of antifreeze, ooooh god, hope antifreeze not in the engine.
Just shootin the bull
I cant remember if it was here or 460.com, but a guy had the two fan set up pushing air through, & wasnt enough to keep the temps down on the engine. May have been the pushing of air or the amount of his engine build he had was the problem & I dont remember if he got it sorted out or not.
