I found a post about a forum member experiencing a similar issue on the SD forum but there wasn't much in the way of a firm solution so I figured I'd post in the V10 specific forum.
I have a 2004 F250 V10 and I would say about 75% of the time I start the truck or just turn the key to "Key On" I will hear a groaning noise from the engine bay. I am sure this is not injector or fuel pump related as I can hear the fuel pump prime, then the injectors click, but 3-5 seconds after that I hear what I would describe as a very light grind, almost a groan sort of noise.
In another forum people attributed this to the anti lock brake pump motor. I occasionally hear this noise 10 seconds or so after I've started the truck and after I have depressed and released the brake pedal before backing out so this diagnosis makes since to me. I've searched Google and FTE to find people with a similar problem to see how they fixed it, however I've come up with nothing using that part description, and searching for noises on FTE to isolate an issue can only be described an impossible task.
Mike ,as we stated in that old post up on the sd forum it is the anti lock brake pump motor on the left fender well.I pulled the fuse for it back in 02 to determine the exact cause there is no fix ,it's just a ready condition it goes through upon initial start up of the truck.
I would let it concern you unless it continues after start up .

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'm just OCD about my truck. If you've had the issue since 2002 and nothing has happened I guess thats good enough for me.
Congarts on the new truck. Most FX4s are pretty fancy, are you still "all levers"?
No I had to give up the handshaker, 2 knee ops an a hip op have got this old dog taken it easy now ,though I miss the stick bigtime.
I still like my sig though !
My son had the 02 for about 50k ,while I had an 06 .Now he has the 06 an we traded in the 02 for the 09
