I am looking to get a camper shell for my 97 F250 HD long bed. Ideally I would like to find a free one so I have been checking the Craig's list.
There are quite a few listed but I'm not sure if the older shells will fit my truck.
So here are my questions:
Would a camper for a 73 F250 fit my 97?
Are other brands compatable with Ford? Could a shell that was on a chevy long bed fit my truck?
The shell off that truck won't fit as the beds are different in design...not to mention size in width and length.
I have a fiberglass shell off of a 2000 GM truck that I have used on my 97 F-150 and the shell is just a tad short for the bed. Plus the shell is slightly narrower than the bed on my truck. With it on my truck though, you can hardly tell it wasn't designed for it.

Thats the truth!...The Chevy bed is slightly smaller. I sold a Lance cab-over Camper that had been on my 95 F-250, to a guy with a 00 Chev. 2500. When we tried to drop it on his truck, the camper would NOT fit between the wheel wells on his Chevy, where it had 1" on either side on the Ford...........Loss of sale!......Chevy bed dimensions ARE different!
