I usually cruise the 73-79 Dentside forum, but I just aquired an 86 Ranger
STX. It has the 2.9L and a 5spd. Engine will crank, but not start. Its getting spark, but no fuel. Do these trucks have 2 fuel pumps? One in tank and one on the frame? What else should I check? I have no experience with these trucks so some helpful pointers would be great. Im sure this question has been asked a dozen times.....but will the 4.0L bolt in??
Can you hear the in-tank pump running with the key on?....If not, thats a place to start. Check to see if the fuel pump shut off switch has not been tripped.
Yes, the 4.0 ohv will bolt up, but you will need the entire harness and ECM to run it, the 7.5 rear axle in that truck will not tolerate a 4.0s torque long, in less than gentle driving.
