So the oil pan was looking very rough (had some pin holes in the sides), the radiator support was close to rotted out along the bottom, and the exhaust manifolds were shot. Given all of this, I decided to pull the motor and take care of all 3 at once.
While the motor is pulled I am:
-Draining the torque convertor, pulling the pan on the e4od, and flushing out the lines and trans cooler
-Replacing some questionable brake lines
-Replacing the motor mounts
-Powerwashing the frame from cab up and painting it
-Clean and paint the engine
Anything else you would recommend replacing/inspecting while the motor is pulled? The motor runs perfect. What about the oil pump? Would it make sense to replace this, even though pressure is fine?
And whats the best place to get an oil pan? I see aftermarket pans all over ranging from $50-$100, but is the quality the same as the Ford pans?
While you have the oil pan off, just make sure your oil pump pick up screen is clean and not obstructed by sludge/debris..............Common trouble with our trucks. By a Ford OEM pan.........If your exhaust manifolds are bad, now is the time to at least put a set of short headers on...........Long tubes if you can afford em'.
good thoughts - i'm going with ford racing stainless shorties with stainless bolts. i plan to own this truck a long time and don't want to ever have to deal with rusted out exhaust bolts and manifolds ever again....
i'm also replacing the spark plugs, brake fluid, steering fluid, and antifreeze.
