I have approx. 30 ft of 2x2 x 1/8" square tubing, and will be bolting and welding it to the sidewalls and floor of the bed for my custom built lumber/ ladder rack.
I am also going to be patching the floor of the bed mostly around the beds bolt holes where rust has occured. I've only a couple hours welding experience under my belt so any advice would be appreciated.
I will be using a wire feed welder with 115 volts.
Luckily someone has already told me to disconnect the battery first, never even thought about that.
A few things and I apologize in advance if I am getting too basic I don't mean to insult you or your welding skills in any way. 1) If you do not have a welder with an Argon tank you will need to use Flux core welding wire. 2) Make sure that the pieces that you are trying to weld are clean and touching each other. 3) With the flux core wire you will get a fair amount of splatter so protective clothing is recommended. 4) Don't worry too much about how pretty the welds are so long as they are strong, with good penetration into both pieces of metal. You can always clean them up with a grinder.
