The best and easiest upgrade for your truck is to find a high pinion 78/9 front axle and bolt it up. Yes this will require a driveshaft modification, but it is much better than all of the other nonsense that you will have to go through.
Besides, the upgrade axle is cheaper and stronger than a disc brake conversion.
Parts for your current axle are getting pretty hard to come by and yours might be worth enough in parts to fund an entire axle swap.
The other option is to find a low pinion open knuckle axle that also has disc brakes. While the driveshaft for this will fit, it may not be the best option, since there are so many advantages to the 78/9 axle.
Upgrade everything, and save some time and money. You will find many benifits by doing this.
