Question About Directonal Flasher

I have a 99 F350 and im looking into replacing the stock bulbs on my truck with LED bulbs (turn/stop/markers). I was wondering if the flashers/relays that come stock with the truck would work with low resistance LED bulbs.

If it would not work, would some one have some information on where the flasher is so I can replace it with a heavy duty flasher?

If doing this is asking for trouble then i won't do it, I just like the instant on and off that LED's provide. Ever since i installed tow mirrors with the led's ive been wanting to change out the other lights. i also have a trailer with led tail lights and they just look so much cooler. thanks.

It may work but the flash rate may be too high for your liking. Some add load equalizers, others use things like this http://www.bikerhiway.com/universal-...lay-p-294.html to compensate.

JCark,

Just in case you're expecting your Truck to light up like a XMas tree.

I installed (so called) super bright LEDS throughout my Truck last year. They were replaced with standard bulbs only after a few days. I found LEDS do not work so well in the OEM light housings. The rear tail/brake is the worst. The front signals are better, but still not so great.
In daylight I would consider exterior LEDS installed in stock Ford light housings dangerous. They are simply not bright enough.

Maybe someone here can offer a better LED product, but I was convinced the ones I purchased were the best available at the time.

If you do install a set at least take a good look at them in the daylight. Install one side and do a daylight side by side comparison and judge for yourself.

I think your hard earned money could be spent smarter on something else you might want for your Truck. Headlight upgrade?

you'll need an electronic flasher to replace the OE unit; its a quick and easy swap, up behind the dash.

you need LED's that have side-facing diodes, such as these:

i was nervous buying bulbs from overseas, but they have been going strong for over 3 years and 57,000+ miles, with my parking lights on 90% of the time i drive. here's a quick vid of one in action:

Those (ebay link) look pretty much the same as I tried. Yours do look pretty bright in the video.
All the visual testing I did with the LEDs was in direct sunlight so maybe my recommendation of not using LEDs is a bit strict. I just found the standard bulbs brighter to my eyes in direct sunlight.
I'm not even very impressed with the interior dome LEDs I have installed.
