2003 engine noise on start up.

I have a 2003 expedition 5.4 engine.On the first start up of the morning after it has set all night,the engine makes a rattling noise for a few seconds and then the noise stops.It doesnt make the noise the rest of the day.Any ideas?I use motorcraft oil filters.

That's normal, it commonly called piston slap and these motors are well known for having it.

Piston slap is quite possible. However, just to make sure, are you sure you have enough oil?

could be the a/c compressor as well. if you left it on when the truck was turned off, it makes a shudder type noise on next startup. tsb for it. no fix except to make sure compressor isnt running when you turn the truck off. found that out AFTER i had the complressor replaced!!
