HI! if i dont drive my f100 for a week or so i have problem to start it up i think the gas sink back from the fuel line to the tank, i have a the gastank mount behind the rearend (long fueline) maybe i mount a fuelfilter with backvalve? near the tank so the gas dont sink back from the carb?. if i start up the car 1-2 day after i drive it no problem If the engine is hot no problem. ford f100 390 engine edelbrock 750 carb edelbrock intake and compcam. Any Tip ? Thanks Simson.
Wow interesting...you have a very similar set-up to mine 390 Edelbrock 750 (manual choke) etc. Mines in a 51 but that doesn't matter here. I generally have the same problem. If I let it go more than a couple days, I have to turn over the starter a little longer to pump the gas back up from the (stock) tank up to the carb.
Usually that means your fuel pump is letting the gas syphon back down into the tank. Mine has been this way since I put th edrive train together and th efuel pump is a new Carter X-type. So, I figured it was just a characteristic of the carb or the system over all.
The fuel pump diaphragm starting to crack is what causes that normally. Replacing the fuel pump MAY solve your problem - but like I said, mine did that with a new pump and still does even with only 6000 miles on it.
I have a Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb on mine and have the same problem. I have the stock mechanical pump on the engine. The gas tank is in the rear. I have been considering adding a solid state electric pump by the tank. I would hook it to a switch so I could turn it on and get the fuel up before I start it, then turn it off. I have heard that it will pump fuel through the stock pump and the stock pump will pull fuel through it when it is off.
Has anyone done this?
