1997 Lubrication Points

I have a 1997 Expedition with a 5.4 L engine. It has 51500 miles on it with normal oil changes but never a lube job.

I can hear a sqeaking type sound when turning my steering wheel coming from somewhere in the engine compartment. I have looked at the Owner's Manual as well as the Factory Service Manual and under the hood but I can find no grease fittings or other type of lubrication points.

Do any exist? Where are they?

My accelerator pedal also wants to stick as I depress it. It requires a gentle tap to get past the resistance but creates a mild surge as I try to get past it. I have traced the resistance to what appears to be the throttle assembly under the cover. I used WD-40 on all the moving parts without success yet.

Any ideas here?

Thanks,
Doug Cook

first it sounds like your accelerator cable is fraying. replace it.

as for the grease fittings. most major auto manufactures use non servicable parts because they want to replace them for you.

unless it is worn out and has looseness in the stearing. you should be ok. but if you have concerns have it checked out by a pro

If it is still running. you didn't try hard enuf!

twoeyedox, your 1997 Ford Expedition actually has two lube fittings. They are both located on the idler arm, one is one the inside of the large front the other is on top of the rear bushing that is connected to the center link. Unfortunately for you, neither of these is where your squeak is coming from so lubing them will increase the life of your idler arm, but will not eliminate your irritating squeak. As for the rest of the components, they do not have grease zerks because they are made out of materials that do not require lubrication, NOT because Ford wants you to come back to have major front end work done as one of the other respondents said!

Hope this Helps!

Thanks for the advice. I'm glad I bought the extended warranty to 100,000.

I'll let the dealer fix it. I was used to my 1968 Mustang with 8 to 12 grease fittings.
