hello i was just wondering if anyone heard about the f series trucks kicking out the spark plugs n causing trouble. i am driving a 2001 triton gas v10 f 250 and love it . is there any kinda preventive measure that can be taken if so? i currentley have 82k on the clock and its doing great! thanx
The superduties got the same heads as all of the other PI equiped engines. I have read here that 2002 made the appearance of a head with one or two more threads, but the 99-01 had low thread holes. There should be several threads here and in the excursion forum on it as well as in the mod motor forum.
The only PM I'm aware of is torquing them properly and if you hear one is loose, tighten it up before it pops. Over torquing and vibrating loose seem to be the main culprits. At 80k, I'd bet it's time for a tune up any way. My OE plugs were shot at 65k. I torqued them to a spec I found here (12-15ft-lbs I think) and have been going fine for the last 10k.
The later heads had more threads in them. If you hear a phht phht phht noise, check all plugs immediately. Keep an ear open for it. It's a loose plug that resembles an exhaust manifold leak . Some people re-torque them every so many miles.
