Paint question on 1937 pickup

Hi all-

I'm usually in the 87-96 forum, but I have a "special project" coming up that I need help with.

My grandfather's very first pick up was a 1937 Ford. His birthday is coming up next month, and while I think it would be awesome if I could find one and fix it up for him, I don't exactly have the cash for that kind of thing right now. So I decided to give him the next [closest] best thing I could think of- a model.

I'm currently searching for a hobby model of the truck [I never outgrew my model building stage- so what if you think I'm a dork! ], but once I have it I have no idea what color[s] to paint it. I don't know what color my grandpa's truck was and I don't see him that often, so to call him up a month before his b-day and ask him what color his old truck was might tip him off.

So what I'm wondering is, can anybody tell me what the most common color[s] for pick ups of that year were? I'd like to know every detail, from body to interior to engine and everything in between [so what if I get really into the paint! ]. I tried a google/yahoo search but didn't really find anything. I figure if I can at least get the most common color, I have a good chance of getting it right.

Thanks so much in advance for any info you guys can give me!

...oops, wrong one...

that's better...

Oh, by the way, if you have a link that can lead me to the info I need, that's just as good.

Thanks again!

I think that is a great idea and by all means not a "DORK" question at all.
Most of the common colors were all commercial colors and they were Red, Green, Blue. There were otheres but these being the most common ones.
The Engine was a Dark Green, all of the Body was same color as the Truck, even under the Fenders. Running boards were Black, and the Bumpers were Chrome, as was the Trim around the Rad, and the Emblem on the Hood Sides. The Interior was usually Black, that was the most common or a Brown was also. The Dash was Body Color, and Top of Dash was Black, as were the Pillar Posts, and Window Trim.
On the Deluxe Model it had a Chrome or Stainless Window surround on the Exterior. The Top Inside Header above Windshield was Body Color.
Hope this helps you out, and good luck on your gift.
I think thats a great idea, and a thoughtfull one at that. Further it comes from within and that makes it a special gift. Hats off to you for the thought, I'm sure he will appreciate it, I know I would.

WOW-

You know I'd almost forgotten that I posted about this- I've been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to work on the model.

Besides, it's too close to his birthday for me to get it done on time anyway [I take extreme care in building them]. But I appreciate that info [and encouragement] guys- I'm still going to get it done and it can be either a late birthday or early christmas present... or both- we'll see about that when the time comes.

Thanks for the detailed colors 5 Star. OldV8Truck thanks for the offer but I think 5 Star pretty well covered everything I need to know- but if you wanted to post the info anyway you never know- it could help me out.

I will try to get some pictures posted of it once I get it done.
