washing the engine input
gonna wash the engine at the local car wash. is there anything under the hood I should cover or not wash or can I just go at it? Just don't wanna jack something up.

Do you only drive in Sunny weather conditions? 
Try not to flood electrical components, like the alternator which is not a sealed unit, with high pressure water. I usually do mine at home with a can of Gunks Engine Brite and low pressure.
A hot engine should be allowed to cool because some cleaners are petroleum based and you know what will happen
