Help with error code 85 (CANP) key on engine off after MAF conversion
Can anyone assist with error code 85 (engine off key on)? The check engine light has been on intermittently, however the truck “seems” to be running well as it has been this way for about a year (it is my daily driver). Quick rundown:
89 F150 5.0 – 5 speed
Custom 3” Exhaust
Headers
24# Injectors
Upper/Lower Intake
New MAP sensor replaced with Mass Air Conversion
New ECU (I want to say a A9L but I am not 100% sure)
After doing some reading it appears the code has to do with the canister purge solenoid. However in 89 the 5.0s did not have the sensor. Is this something that can be added? Does anyone known this error is caused by an excessive rich condition? Should I look at replacing the o2 sensors, as I’m not 100% sure where I got them both. Any thoughts/suggestions/comments are welcome.

Reason: stupid MSWord
I have been trying to locate this solenoid on my 89 5.0. When I got the truck the vac lines from the evap canister to the throttle body had been disconnected and sealed off. I have a Code 85 also.
My assumption was that the solenoid went bad and someone didn't want to pay $50 to replace it. You are saying that this wasn't on our trucks?
I'm glad someone else is trying to solve this mystery
You can't just put 24lb injectors in without totally recalibrating the computer so your motor is running pig rich right now.. I suggest you get some 19's to swap in.
These early trucks didn't have a canister purge solenoid so there won't be a wiring connector for it even if you acquired a solenoid, so you would have to add the wires on a truck that is using a mustang or late model truck computer or get a tuning device to disable the device.
