suppose to go on a trip tomorrow so figured had all day to front brakes today.. new pads, rotors, inner-outer bearings, and seal.. noticed the new rotors seem really thick and just barely clear the the caliper bracket.. anyways front brakes seem to be draggin lightly both sides.. first test ride i had some light smoke.. second ride no smoke noticed but the hubs are warm to touch.. wouldnt dare touch the rotors
Maybe sticky calipers. I think you can add a signature now with 33 posts. I may be wrong. Then it will be clearer when you ask questions. If there that hot you might have to postpone that trip.
that was my original thought.. they where tough to compress. only other sympton I have is when ya step on brake pedal hard now you here a slight pump like sound ya didnt before... very faint.. and not everytime
Does the brake pedal feel hard to push now? You did crack open the master cylinder cap when you compressed them?
no.. seems a lil softer.. and yes
just put the truck on stands in the dark like a fool.. took tires off and cant spin the rotor either side.. the lines look fine... and they where spinning freely when i put it back together. nice and smoooth
Caliper time. Might check the wheel bearings also. When you pop the caliper make sure you have good rotation and not much play if any. Good luck with it.
Did you put new hoses on? Could be a bad hoses. Press on the pedal a couple times and then crack open a bleeder. If you get a pretty good squirt with no pressure on the pedal, I think your hoses may be shot. You can't tell their condition by just looking at them.
lines look good.. seem to be flowin fluid fine.. when i disconnected the lines the calipers where still stuck
The guys are dead on on the hoses, they can look great on the outside but can crack and delaminate from the inside either fouling the caliber or act as a check valve and keep the fuild trapped inside. I would change the hoses and flush the crud out of the calibers, before replacng the calibers. Then if it still a issue then go for the calibers. Anytime a caliber goes bad its time to replace the hoses.
I didnt resolve this yet.. had to give up and go on trip without truck (or the new camper -damn it) anyways replaced calipers fridays morning, same thing.. no one had lines in stock that day.. will replace lines..
there is only about +/_1mm clearance between the new rotors and the caliper bracket where it mounts and the pads seem to be riding slightly above the outer diameter of the rotor (like they are a just a lil too small)
are there more then one type of rotor to fit a 96 with dana 50 front end? could they have givin me wrong ones??
Double check the pads...just make sure that you have the right ones. Something is diffidently wrong. Everything was working until you replaced parts. Hmmmmmm!
Well I dont pay enough attention to detail.. Autozone lists for 96 F250 diesels this part number:
Part Number: 5445
Rotor Outside Diameter: 319 mm.
Height: 82 mm.
Bolt Hole and Circle Diameter: 8 - 6 1/2 in.
I had a friend double check the part number and it should be this:
Part Number: 54026
Rotor Outside Diameter: 329 mm.
Height: 79 mm.
Bolt Hole and Circle Diameter: 8 - 6 1/2 in.
the rotor fit on the truck and they look almost identical, the 3mm difference in height is killin the offset/inset?? so if you buy rotors for autozone make sure you get the right ones
