Can anyone give advice on testing an oil sending unit? My guage fluters and I want to start with the sender and work my way to the guage. Is there a resistance number or other way to test? I have a FoMoCo part new in box, but who's to say it's good? Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Well, just change it out if you have the new part.
Some times the `wire contact on top of the sending unit will work loose and give and eratic reading.

Just to add a little something to John's post, check the threads were the sender goes into the block, make sure there isn't any tape or sealant on them, the electrical senders need to reference a good ground here to operate correctly and usually have tapered threads for sealing, this won't matter on a mechanical unit.
I just said the hell with it and put in the new FoMoCo part. Oil pressure reads just like new, the inferior sender had the contact on the end made of a different material (silver in color, probably not copper). Thanks guys for your input.
