I change oil in my own truck and for some of my friends - my manual says 6 quarts, but I end up putting 7 quarts in (with filter). 2000 f150 and also the Expedition. I go by the dipstick. Are there different oil pans which would make it different. I wait forever, just to see if it will drain down - but always the same. any info would be helpful.

What year and motor do you have? I'm also looking for some type of guideline/factory manual for oil caps.

i have a 2000 f-150 same thing put six quarts of oil in it. it looks like its a quart low. my 1998 f-150 was the same way both have the 5.4l engine. i asked the dealer about it they said just put six qt in it. and add oil when it gets below add mark.but when i change oil in it. i put 6.5 qts in it. i dont think i would put 7qt in it may start pushing it out. let me know if you find anything else out. it always puzzled me and dealer was no help

I just recently purchased my first Ford, ' 01 F150 SuperCrew Lariat w/ the 5.4L. Blk w/ Tan trim and leather. Anyway, i have only 1000 miles on it. haven't change the oil yet. i've been driving Chevy's and i would religiously change the oil every 3000 miles using regular oil, not synthetic. however, my question is: 1) how many quarts is needed? 2) is it ok to mix one quart of synthetic w/ the remaining reg oil?

n_s,

It's 6 quarts and most of the synthetic mfgr's I've seen say they are compatable with all other oils.

1) 6qts. The dipstick will read about halfway in the safe zone but it is full. 2) Yes, it is OK to add a quart of synthetic, although I wouldn't do it myself.

John Do a cut and past and you can have them too. I had rather see a frown on the bowtie.

Have a '95 351, Ford claims 6 quarts, but it needs 6-1/2 to reach the full mark. The other 1/2 quart works just great in the lawnmower and snowblower...
