During normal driving condition my 2005 F 350 5.4 will occasionally shut down. I happened last week, and late 2008 the last time it did it. Any idea what is causing this?
aftermarket alarm/starter interupt installed by chance ???
asking cuz its surprizingly common for aftermarket alarms to shut ur engine off for no reason..was having that exact issue with my Ford Taurus awhile back..
asked a mechanic at work, he said try removing the alarm.. sure enuf after we took it out the car never "mysteriously" shut off again...
Sorry it took so long to post again... working nights... bummer!
It seems to be most common in the 25-35 mph range. Its only happened on back roads.
I'll just be cruising along, no load, take my foot off the accelerator for few seconds, and when i go to get back on the gas.... nothing, i look and the little wrench light is displayed on the instrument panel. I throw it in neutral quick, and it will restart, but it turns over longer than normal.
No aftermarket electrical accessories on the truck.
My uncle had a similiar issue in his Ranger. Turned out to be a loose ground wire. He'd be driving along fine then all of a sudden it shut down. Usually it would fire right back up. It wasn't until it wouldn't start one time that we started tracing ground wires. Found one loose and pretty rusted up. I would at least check that out. Something simple to at least elminate.
