1947 Ford Truck serial number
Hi, guys.
This is Flavio, from Brazil. I found an old Ford Truck, half-ton, 1947, with a very strange serial number in the chassis:
799C - I 36972 I
The "catalog of Ford Truck ID Numbers 1946 - 1972" indicates six numbers between little stars, but my truck has only five numbers, between "I" letters ... very strange.
Who can help me to understand this number ? Thanks a lot.
Flavio.

This website shows that for '47 the serial number (the part after the 799C-) should be
1,412,708 to 2,071,117
The "I"s in your serial are actually ones, the stars should be before the first 7 and after the last I (one). That serial is a little low for the accepted starting serial for '47, but is definitely in the right range. Remember that the serial number was assigned to the engine when it was built and stamped on the trans, then that number was transferred to the frame when the engine was put in. I assume the 799C on the trans was added when the engine was assigned to a frame as well (correct me if I am wrong but that V8 with toploader 3 spd could have been put into a sedan delivery and would have been 799A instead) So one plant could still have had some engines with lower serial numbers when they started stamping for '47 compared to other plants. But it definitely is reasonable for it to be a '47.

Hi Flavio, I'm Robson from Brazil too, I recently bought a Ford 1947 too, but it's unlabeled in the cabin. My chassis is similar to yours it starts with * 699C <-> i 000000 but in the end it has 6 digits and does not have the star. Can someone identify?
