We now started selling this stuff at the lube rack called petron plus. For $17.99 you can get this stuff put in your engine. A sales rep came into the office today and told me he wanted to show me a demonstraion that the other employees saw when I was off. It is the test where you have the electric motor spinning and put pressure against the metal thing on the end of the output shaft. He tried all the different oils and other additives we had. They made it to about 40 ft .lbs of pressure before it stopped and then he put on the petron. At 100ft. lbs. it was still turning. The manager thought he might have messed with the test machine before he added petron. Okay. First of all I put some of this in a cup to see what it was like. Feels looks and smells like 80W90, so I ran down in the pit and pumped out a little 80W90 in another cup. By golly I can't tell the difference. I have heard in the past that liquid bleach performs better on this test than any oil or oil additive out there. I am going to have 3 cups ready when he gets there. One with liquid bleach, one with 80W90 and the other with this miracle product. He will not be able to tell the difference between the 80W and the miracle product so we will see how it goes. I am going to do everthing I can to make this guy look like a complete jackass becasue I hate being lied too. Any suggestion on other things you think will pass this test go ahead and throw them at me. Once he fails his test I'm sure the general manager will be more than happy to take it off the shelves. I'm pretty sure I have seen the petron stuff at 7-11 before. I doubt it is that good.
Also if the bleach thing pans out I am going to tell him that I have been using clorox fresh scent in my truck for the last 350,000 miles and have not had any problems. Of course I'm not. You definitely wouldn't burn any oil if you used bleach though.
The problem is bleach alone won't do the trick. Bleach helps as an additive. Or they could be using Zinc. There's lots of ways to cheat in that test and its hard for the layman to catch them.
Ask the sales rep if he has the MSDS for the product. He's pretty lame if he won't give you that and a product specification sheet. You can tell a lot about it from the MSDS because it will list the flash point, reactivity and also ingredients unless they are considered "trade secret".
The product spec sheet will give even more info like API gravity, viscosity index, pour point, zinc and a whole lot more.
Your boss should have a copy of the MSDS in the office. If not...he shouldn't even have the product on site.
