Most of the time you will find me in the 73 to 79 forum, but due to a career change I need some opinions. After 9 years of unbelievable service, my 01 superduty is for sale. I have changed career paths, and my new company will provide me with a pickup to use. I hate to get rid of her, but its time. When ordering a vehicle, I was given the option between chevy and ford...no brainer. Once I emphatically asked if anybody made a pickup besides ford, I was given the option between f150 and f250. Being a superduty guy for some time now, I chose the f250. I was not however given an option as far as engines go. It will come with the 5.4. Ford now claims the 5.4 is 300 hp, does anybody have one? I know I'm gonna miss my v10, but I guess I am just wondering what the guys who have them think.
I've had the v-8 and the v-10. If it were my money I would always opt for the v-10. If it was given to me for free, I could live with the v-8. You will miss the extra cubic inches but you will get by. Try to get the 4.10 or 4.30 rear end. That will help.
I love my 5.4 liter absolutly love it. You should be (I am pretty sure) getting the same engine. Your version should have heads with steel pressed in, correcting the spark plug issues of the 06 models.( Steel and alluminum didnt mix)
Mine has been great... 4;10s and the torqueshift tranny. I tow up to 12500 no issues. I can honestly compare my truck to my buddies, who has the 6.0 liter of 06 in a 350.
I did when I got it hav an issue... I was getting 8mpg. The tranny liked to shift really high and hols 2nd gear 2500 rpms in neighborhoods. It drove me up a wall. I took it back within 300 miles. Talked about fuel and shifting ect. They had a guy that does the reflashing. I talked to him also.
I know he bumped mine up, but said it is the most he can do with a Ford program...(he does motorsport stuff)
I get 13.86 mpg all around. I can drive threw neighborhoods 25 mph under 1000 rpms now... all is good, and it has plenty of power for towing my race trailer. I run 70 75 mph... 1 time hit 80 (not paying attention) so the 5,4 will pull
The only upgrade I did was a K&N filter in the stock housing
well, basically whatever it has is what I get. My guess is it will come with 3.83 gears because they will be looking for as much economy out of it they can get. hopefully once I have a little more pull within the company I will get more say in it down the road, but for now I am just happy not driving a chebby like the other guys. I was a faithful 460 guy, and not very impressed with the v10 at first. however, after 150000 miles and no repairs I am sold. I do realize that the hp ratings are close between the 01 v10 and the 2010 5.4. Its good to hear you guys have been happy.
Not sure why you would sell your own truck, just because a company provides you with another. Company could be gone tomorrow, you could be gone from the company tomorrow, things happen. Are they gonna like you pulling your trailer with their truck?
And a 5.4 does not belong in front of a trailer - period. Except maybe in an F150. Even then, barely adequate.
I will be with this company for the rest of my life. They are going nowhere. The company pickup is mine to use as my own, and the gas card that goes with it.

It will come with 3.73's not 3.83's. That is what I have and I love my truck. Now mine is an 08 but there is no difference between mine and a 10. You will love it. It is a great truck.
This is a stretch comparison. My wife has an Expedition '08 with the 5.4 and the 3.55 rear end.
I tow a 28' maybe 9000lb travel trailer with it and it will not hold 70 mph on flat ground in overdrive. I know, it's not logical to expect it to, but that's the deal with it.
It does go and stop fine, just needs RPM's and time with the 3.55 rear end. I would not think that a 3.73 with the same 18" wheels would be that much better but I would hope that the entire engine/tranny/diff. would be completely different for a SD truck. I'm sure it is.
If I were you, I'd certainly take the "free" truck and deal with it. It just may not rock your world, but what company vehicle does?
Here's an interesting FYI for everybody. The 3.73 rear end is not available on a single rear wheel super duty for the 2010 model 6.4L. The lowest will be the 3.55.

I said the same thing... Now I am looking at certain demise...
I work for the largest company in my industry, and in the world. I have 20 years here. I thought after 15 years and the number of people behind me, they would have to shut it down to get to me. NOT 968 people got it on March 1 2009. Since that time till present, layoffs continue, and have stalled as of June 1st. Where does that leave me???
I am the last guy on the board, the next layoff is me!
Thank god my last son turns 18 in 10 days. I thankfully raised my kids.
The 5.4 liter is plenty engine, coupled with 4"10s and the torqueshift tranny. Like Isaid my race trailer get heavy 12500 and I have no problem. I relate it to my buddies 06 psd. It is the same thing. MPG and power.
