I listen to a guy out of San Antonio that has an auto show on radio. He went to the National Auto Show in January and cornered one of Fords engine engineers. He asked about the oil spec and Texas heat. According to this engineer, the oil that comes in the truck from the factory and Ford 5W-20 is a semi-synthetic. It is dino based with synthetic modifiers. The important part of the oilspec is the 5W. It has to do with the flow characteristics at start-up. A 5W-30 or a 0W-30 is fine. And yes you can go to synthetic oil at anytime. Hope this helps.
