My 2004 2WD Ford Expedition is due for it's 60,000 mile maintenance and I was given two different cost estimates from Friendly Ford in Las Vegas, NV. I believe there is some merrit in getting these scheduled services performed as it does maintain resell value.
One was $245 and the other was $550. In short, the difference in the more expensive service included the following:
Repack wheel bearings
Drain/fill cooling system
Replace air cleaner elements
Balance and rotate tires
I can get the tires balanced and rotated for nearly free at Discount Tire. I can also easily change filters and drain/fill the cooling system.
The main thing I really don't want to mess with is repacking the bearings, but I thought (maybe mistakenly so) that these were sealed and didn't require your typical "repacking". Am I wrong?
I know it's a lot of money, but I would probably pay it if the bearings on all the wheels needed repacked.
The 4wd model uses a sealed bearing & hub assembly, so there's no repacking them. The 2wd model does have re-buildable / re-packable bearings on the front though.
