05 Light Socket
1. I read the post about building a harness with a relay. If I understand correctly, this is only to regulate the voltage so there is no dimming of the lights if there is a power drain. I am correct?
2. I am also guessing that you can just re-wire a new (H13) socket to the existing wiring in the truck and that will work too, but not as clean as above.
3. If I buy and HID kit, then both points #1 and #2 are moot. Correct?
3a. HID's replace only the low beam? - What about the high beam?
4. Where can you pick up the H13 sockets? I tried a couple of auto parts stores and zippo.
Thanks!!
Tony
HIDs are bright enough they don't "need" a high beam. But there are some that have dual type bulbs and there are some that move a shield around to give the effect of 2 filaments, and others. If you HID you might be able to order the kit with H13 bulbs and 9007 input sockets, or you could hardwire the ballast in.
Relay or not will work. The relay helps some with voltage drop from the long run of wires from the battery to the switch to the dimmer to headlight bulbs.
Also when I first installed them I put the ballast close to the ABS sensor and the ABS light was on and the spedo didn't work. I moved the ballast away from it and it all went back to normal. Let me say this. The HID's make a BIG difference. You can see forever. ANd I don't have people flashing their lights at me. I got the 4.3k ones. They are the brightest ones and are not blue. They are pure white.
It was a plug and play install. Took about 30 minutes and that's because I took my time. Once you do it you can do it in 10 minutes. I have since upgraded all my cars to HIDs.
I didn't do the fog lights. I put the silverstars in them. When I put the silverstars in BEFORE I did the HID's I was shocked how dim the regular bulbs are. Then I put the HID's in and was shocked how dim the silverstars are.
Get the HID's.
