Two piece unit? The slip yoke area? Sounds like you got it out far enough that it's back to "unworn" territory and got stuck. Take a rubber mallet and smack the end of the shaft(to compress it) and see if you can get it moving again. It's probably just stuck due to tight fit and all that grease inside. It will tend to get "suction" and not move easily.
