An Inconvenient Truth?

On TV. The first satellite to measure global temperatures was launched 30 years ago. Since then a research facility in Alabama has been collecting data from it and others. They found that over the last 30 years average global temperatures have remained constant. An inconvenient truth?
Also on TV. The largest natural gas field in the world was recently discovered in Wyoming. That, combined with other recent huge finds, now means that the U.S. has the worlds largest reserves of natural gas. Another inconvenient truth?

I sure hope this isn't bait to hook us into a political discussion!

Without any verifiable sources of credible sources, it's nothing but unsubstantiated rumor.

Are we talking about proven reserves?

America is a very advanced country, with a large market for oil and gas.

Most of America's energy reserves have been mapped out.

The Central Asian countries are supposedly sitting on a lot of gas. But we won't really know how much oil and gas they have until the political and economic conditions are right to start drilling wells and exploiting those resources.

We've been experiencing warmer summers, and colder winters. Average temps might remain constant, but it's still something to be concerned about.

I think global warming is real. The inconvenient truth is that there's not much that can be done about it, short of a world government to control pollution, and distribute food and other resources (communism).

Let's pray that never happens, so we're probably going to see a market solution... i.e. Lots of people will die. Climate change will cause famines and natural disasters that many countries will not be able to deal with. As a result people will die, there will be wars and social unrest, and more people will die.. and so forth, until there is a balance.

I think what's happening is a normal part of history. In the middle ages, famines were a regular occurance and could easily kill 1/3 of the population. But these famines were also followed by political and economic progress, as the resulting labour shortages forced civilizations to improve their economic methods.

Today we have industrial farming methods that have eliminated food shortages... temporarily. Industry comes at a price, and at some point the earth will not be able to sustain a growing population.

well,if the past month has been global warming,i hope to hell they don't do anything to change it!! July was the coolest in the history of this area since they have been keeping track. high in the low 80's and down in the 50's low 60's at night. perfect camping weather!! usually I am done camping by the end of june because july is too hot. I have been camping every weekend in july and never hardly broke a sweat!! the highs are usually in the high 90's in july low 70's,uncomfortable to be sleeping in a tent at night. I am not going to say my personal feeling about global warming because that would get this thread headed for the club in a split second, lets just say Al Gore is a moron and leave it at that.

I agree totally. According to records kept for the past 112 years July set its own record for being the coolest ever!! Global warming is a crock of smelly inedible stuff and so is the person that thought it up!!
The electric company hates me because I haven't been running the a/c as much.

earth is a living planet. the continents are always on the move. The climate will change as well, it's a fact of life. One day the sun will go super nova and distroy this planet. nothing last forever. it's perfectly reasonable to think the earth temps will rise few degrees .

The source for the average temperature was a discussion on BBCTV and I believe it to be good.
The source for the natural gas reserves was Bloomberg News and I believe it to be credible also.

Inconveniently, the Sun (that orange thing in the sky we get to see between incessant rain showers) decided to lower its output a fraction of a percent.

As a result, the globe (the thing we live on, not the toy spinning in your den) decided to lower its temps the last 2 years wiping out all the gains. The jet stream (the wind current, not the airplane model) stayed in a winter pattern and has wiped out all existence of the word 'hurricane' (the storm type that some people use to determine how F'd we really are) from our vocabulary.

All this occured INDEPENDENTLY of the amount of carbon in the air, water or feces.

Therefore, if the scientists are not back at work furiously correcting the 'model', then they aint scientists but rather money grubbing political hacks.

Thats my story, and Im sticking to it.

Agree about July weather. It has been amazing here in southern indiana. I do not think that tehre has been a day over 90. very nice breeze.
I believe life cycles happen and we as a planet change everyday and if you notice that EVERYTHING that has to do with the GLOABAL WARMING" costs consumers money. You need better cars, better a/cs, better appliances, clothing to be manufactured differently, diapers less damaging, it does not end. there has not been a "free" solution yet.
Costs of power etc have all gone up, how many companies raise their rates because they have to meet new requirements for the prevention of global warming.
My take...I love be made love to but I hate being effed
